The Morrell Metalsmiths Story
Leigh Morrell started forming the idea for Morrell Metalsmiths in the late 1970s. Having worked as a farrier for a number of years, Leigh was familiar with the skills needed to forge iron in fire. He had even dabbled in decorative iron work, making unique, handcrafted gifts for family and friends. When his back gave out from spending so much time bent over horse’s hooves, he decided to begin selling iron works for a living. Thus Morrell Metalsmiths (then West Village Forge) was born in 1981.
In the more than 30 years since, Morrell Metalsmiths has stayed true to its original values. As a family run business, we are dedicated to providing the highest quality products and personal attention to all of our customers.
Leigh’s eldest son, Justin, began forging metal in the workshop at a very young age. From the start, he was fascinated with the process of using fire and coal to turn wrought iron into art. He enjoyed learning the craft as he worked side-by-side with his father. After graduating high school, Justin joined his father full time in the family business and has remained there ever since.
To further the legacy, Leigh’s youngest son, Evan, recently joined the business. Each member of the Morrell family brings a unique perspective and his own talents to Morell Metalsmiths, ever broadening our artistic capabilities and strengthening our team. In 2011, Leigh and Justin began the process of passing down the ownership of the business from father to son, ensuring that the legacy of this blacksmith shop will continue as a family-run business for years to come.
Morrell Metalsmiths is founded on the principle that quality and craftsmanship speak for themselves. This has guided our decisions over the years and helped us ensure that the Morrell Metalsmiths name remains synonymous with quality, craftsmanship and reliable products.
