Beginner Blacksmithing

Class Description: 

Six weeks of 2.5 hour sessions, talking about nothing but blacksmithing.  This class will open up a new perspective.  There is nothing virtual or digital about this experience, and there is everything rewarding about it.  You will learn to take a piece of metal, and bend and twist it to make beautiful decorations and functional, beautiful pieces for your home.  

Particulars:

  • Please wear closed-toed shoes and long pants while participating.  

  • If you have a blacksmiths hammer you've been wanting to try, bring it along!  Otherwise, all you need for the class will be provided. 

  • Ages 13 and up

  • For children under 18, parental permission may need to be obtained.  

  • We look forward to seeing you!

Class is Limited to 8 students

6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Course Fee - $450 ($100 due at signup)

Rescheduling Policy:

Class deposits are non-refundable. However, if you notify us two weeks in advance of the class that you would like to move your spot to a later class, we will do so at no charge. Within that two week mark, there will be a fee equal to 50% of the overall course price in order to reschedule.

Introductions, History, Terminology, Safety, Stance and Hammer swing, Forging a point.

Project: Bean Hook

Practice Practice Practice. Continuing with points, curls, learning to spread material.

Project: Bean Hook 

Further learning to spread material by making fishtail scrolls.

Project: Four Hook Coat Rack

Continue working on spreading material, start working on the back plates for the coat rack.

Project: Four Hook Coat Rack

Matching up and beaning hooks to match for the coat rack. Final Assembly.

Project: Four Hook Coat Rack

Final Class is open to the students. Finish up uncompleted projects. Demos on request. Help with any desired techniques.
